Life Sentence Handed Down for Violent Attempted Abduction of Clemson Student

A man has been sentenced to life in prison plus ten years after being convicted of kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct, and larceny stemming from a September 2024 attack on a Clemson University student, the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

Darrell Scott Brooks gained entry to the victim’s vehicle by falsely claiming to be a university staff member in need of a ride for his disabled car, subsequently forcing her to pull over near a church on Fants Grove Road where he assaulted her at knifepoint.

The victim managed to break free when a passing motorist heard her screams and intervened, after which Brooks stole her car, triggered a multi-county law enforcement pursuit into Oconee County, and was ultimately apprehended following a crash.
