Local Subway serving Sandwiches to People in Need

In celebration of World Sandwich Day 2018, Subway® restaurants and food banks in the Feeding America® network across the Carolinas have joined together to feed 2,018 people in need. Locally, Subway team members in the Upstate will provide 300 subs to people served by Living Branch Ministries, a partner agency with Harvest Hope Food Bank in the important work to end hunger. The sandwiches will be transported in a World Sandwich Day vehicle from Wakefield Automotive, a community supporter of local food banks. Nationally, between Nov. 3-9, Subway restaurants will donate one meal* to Feeding America for every order placed online or using the Subway® App. “Last year, thanks to our customers, Subway restaurants donated 11.5 million meals to Feeding America food banks around the United States,” said local Subway franchise owner Tom Harvey. “We’re proud to bring together our local Subway teams, guests, and communities to inspire action around hunger.” Nearly 14% of the Upstate population struggle with hunger; many of whom turn to Harvest Hope Food Bank and its partner agencies for relief. The number of families needing assistance increases as the holiday season approaches and local soup kitchens and food pantries turn to the community for support. It helps raise awareness of all the programs fighting hunger in the Upstate.” In the U.S., 1 out of 8 people struggle with hunger, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). That means 41 million people across the country, including nearly 13 million children and more than 5 million seniors, don’t have enough to eat. Subway and Feeding America are addressing this serious issue for the third consecutive year to help fight hunger in the U.S. For more information, visit feedingamerica.org and join the conversation with Subway on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
