Locals urged to Spay or Neuter Pets

The Seneca Animal Hospital and Oconee Humane Society will participate in World Spay Day to promote the life-saving benefits of spay and neutering.  The partnership will provide 30 free spay or neuter surgeries for Oconee County cats to be performed at Seneca Animal Hospital on February 1, 2014. Proof of OconeeCounty residency is required to participate in the World Spay Day event. Residents must also be eligible for one of two programs: the $ix Dollar Fix or the income-based program.  Residents who live within the boundaries of Highway 123 and Wells Highway qualify for the $ix Dollar Fix.  The income-based program uses a sliding scale, and verification of income is required. In honor of World Spay Day, voucher co-pays will be covered by Oconee Humane Society. All surgeries will be done on February 1. The Oconee Humane Society will be at the Seneca Petsmart on January 11 from noon to 4pm issuing low cost spay or neuter vouchers for all programs. If you can’t make it to Petsmart, you can get a spay or neuter voucher at the Oconee Humane Society, located at 1925 Sandifer Boulevard in Seneca,  Monday through Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Every year over 6,000 pets are surrendered to the Oconee County Animal Shelter, and less than half of them are lucky enough to be adopted.  Spay and neutering saves lives, and lessens the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers.
