May Corp. Plans $20 Million Investment; Rock Quarry Causes Dispute
At their meeting this week, the Oconee County Council passed a final reading of a tax credit agreement with the May Corporation of Greenville, who plans to invest $20 million to redevelop the former mill village property at Newry into new housing. In other County news, issues with the Oconee Rock Quarry near Walhalla get a full airing June 2 after councilmen Glenn Hart and Wayne McCall reported complaints about lengthy waits at the quarry, along with shortages of crushed stone. County Administrator Amanda Brock said that facts and figures will be gathered and presented at the June 2 meeting, and those figures , Brock said, would refute claims that the quarry is not meeting production goals and is leaving customers dissatisfied, adding that the quarry has been reporting record sales.
