Mayor anticipates Two Business Incentive Programs to begin in July

Two new business incentive programs in the City of Seneca could be approved next month. Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander says that the business development incentive program and the commercial building improvement program are scheduled for discussion soon. “We have second reading coming up, hopefully, in July at our regular meeting. That is the plan for right now, but we are sort of finalizing everything there. The Oconee Economic Alliance, Janet Hartman and Richard Blackwell, have been very involved in this by sharing ideas what other towns have done. Every town is different, so they adopt different things but if you look at other towns like Anderson, Walhalla or Westminster, that have incentives. It actually makes things more attractive for people to come in and invest, but they also know there are some incentives there that they can take advantage of to help them offset some of their costs. So, I’m very excited about that because I feel like there is lots of interest and the city is trying to partner with some of the people that want to open businesses or remodel their buildings here. So, that is coming together and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.” The Seneca Development Committee will present those two program proposals to the full Seneca City Council in July for consideration and final approval.
