Mayor comments on Seneca Election

Results must still be certified but Tuesday’s Seneca Municipal Election had three incumbents and one challenger voted into four year terms on the city council. Scott Durham received 487 votes, Joel Ward got 460, and Denise Rozman had 394 votes as incumbents and W.C. Honeycutt Jr. garnered 354 votes as a challenger. Those were the top four vote getters and then incumbent Stuart Pohl received 348 votes and challenger Robert B. Holbrooks had 220. Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander shared these comments on the municipal election. “I talked to Rev. Honeycutt and congratulated him. I know they have to ratify everything this week, but he ran a good race. I know he is looking forward to serving on city council. The other incumbents that went back on, I know they are thankful for the votes they received and the opportunity to serve again. Stuart Pohl has done a great job on city council. He had served the last four years. He is really compassionate about wanting this city to be the best it can be, so I hate it for him but I know that is sort of how it is but he did a great job and was always trying to do it for the right reason. I think he will still be involved, he wants to see the downtown continue to prosper. Low turnout with 13% and it looked like there are more registered voters in Seneca than there used to be, so we are starting to grow a little bit on the inside of the city.” The Oconee County Board of Voter Registration and Elections will canvass the poll results at 11am today at 415 South Pine Street in Walhalla before making them official.
