Measles Case Confirmed at Starr Elementary School
Anderson School District 3 has confirmed a case of measles involving a student who briefly attended Starr Elementary School on January 7, 2026, before developing symptoms that were later diagnosed as the highly contagious viral illness.
Health officials identified potential exposure on one bus route serving students from Starr-Iva Middle School and Crescent High School, prompting direct notifications to affected families and the placement of ten individuals in quarantine. This marks the first confirmed measles case in Anderson County Schools amid the ongoing statewide outbreak that originated in the Upstate region in late 2025.
The district is collaborating closely with the South Carolina Department of Public Health, which has provided guidance on monitoring for symptoms—including fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and rash—and advised families to seek medical care if symptoms appear while keeping children home.
No further action is required unless directly contacted, and the school community is being kept informed as additional recommendations emerge to prioritize student and staff safety.
