Meeting Monday for Answers to Old Jail Fire

Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw hopes to receive answers Monday on the fire that damaged part of the old county jail on Sept. 23. A meeting that morning will bring together those involved in the investigation, specifically representatives of the county’s insurer. A separate fire protection issue in the building has delayed Christ Central Ministries’ start of a rehabilitation program to help former prisoners. According to Sheriff Crenshaw, the office of the state Fire Marshal wants a sprinkler system installed in the building which, when built in the 1970s, did not require one.
