Mega Millions Drawing for $586M Jackpot

The Mega Millions jackpot has been boosted to $586 million, which is the second largest lottery prize in United States history.  A representative with the Mega Millions Jackpot says ticket sales are ahead of projections, one of the primary factors pushing the jackpot higher.  In fact, the jackpot may be increased one more time in advance of the evening drawing.  It is expected that between 65 and 75% of the 259 million possible number combinations will be in play when the numbers are drawn.  South Carolina lottery officials say every time there is a big run on Powerball or Mega Millions tickets because of a large jackpot, it means an additional $3-4 million to state education.
