METAL DETECTORS IN ALL SCHOOLS, BUT AT WHAT COST?

Metal detectors are mandatory at airports and have become common at government offices. At least one South Carolina state lawmaker wants walk-thru detectors at all schools. We have this comment from Seneca’s state representative Bill Sandifer on a colleague’s piece of pre-filed legislation for the new session that starts tomorrow in Columbia: “I think it’s (metal detectors in schools) a laudable idea but, as with all things, we need to know what it will cost, how quickly, it can be implemented….” In recent years, Oconee County and the county school district have contributed to the costs to staff all schools with resource officers.
