More People working in OC than Ever

Currently there are more people working in Oconee County than ever before, reports Emily Hodge, Economic Development Specialist with the Oconee Economic Alliance. “We currently have more people employed in Oconee County than we ever have before. So, our labor force is over 35,000 people and our unemployment rate is down to 4.1%, which is almost a full percentage point lower than it was in 2016. So, we are looking really good in that regard.” December’s unemployment rate in Oconee County was 4.1%, which represents 1,460 people currently looking for work. South Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate averaged 4.3% in 2017, down from the rate of 5% in 2016, according to new re-estimated unemployment data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
