More Youth testing Positive for AIDS

The CDC is out with new numbers on AIDS and Youth. The CDC’s Dr. Thomas Frieden says many young people don’t get tested and don’t know they’re infected. “Too few young people are getting tested for HIV, in fact, well over half of the youth living with HIV today, don’t know they’re infected.” The new numbers show the spread of HIV is heavily concentrated in young people, adds Dr. Frieden. “Young people today account for about one out of every four new HIV infections in the U.S.” Dr. Frieden gives figures from the latest AIDS study. “In 2010, people aged 13 to 24 were 26% of all new HIV infections and African-Americans and gay and bisexual men were hardest hit.” The CDC recommends everyone get tested if they are engaged in a promiscuous lifestyle with multiple partners.
