Moving new Keowee school higher in the pecking order
An Oconee district administrator worried last night that the existing heating and air units along with the integrity of the school building roof may not last as long as it takes to build and finish a new Keowee Elementary. Steve Hanvey suggested to the county trustees making a replacement Keowee school a higher priority. In the district’s long-range building plan, a new Keowee Elementary is targeted for the years 2027-2029. In this time of price increase it is difficult, Hanvey says, to accurately forecast what the new school might cost. He ventured somewhere between $30 million and $45 million is a possibility. In the meantime, the associate superintendent says the district has choices on where to build the school.
