Murder Suspect Wanted in South Dakota Arrested in Anderson County, SC

A suspect wanted for first-degree murder in Sioux Falls, SD has been extradited from South Carolina and booked into the Minnehaha County Jail as of January 10. Lamont Burks Jr., 28, was apprehended in Anderson County, SC after a stationary license plate reader detected his vehicle in November.
Burks and another suspect, Walter Stewart, are accused of opening fire at Dunham Park on August 25, killing 29-year-old Joshua Antrell Allen Jr. and injuring three others. Stewart was arrested in Sioux Falls in November, while Burks fled the state before his capture. After contesting extradition unsuccessfully, Burks was returned to South Dakota and is scheduled to appear in court on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated assault. Prosecutors are seeking a habitual offender designation, which could enhance sentencing if convicted.
