National ‘Drug Take Back Day,’ Oct. 24

It’s that time of year again – time to responsibly dispose of expired medications. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) encourages residents to drop off unused, expired or unwanted prescription drugs at participating locations for the 10th anniversary of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, Oct. 24.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting two events at two different places on Saturday from 10 am until 2 pm. One location is at the Sheriff’s Office Substation, near the Emergency Room at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital, and also at the Law Enforcement Center, 300 South Church Street, Walhalla.

This nationwide biannual event is hosted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and provides a responsible way for the public to dispose of prescription drugs that might otherwise be stolen or abused or fall into the wrong hands.
