Nationwide Emergency Alert Test scheduled Today

FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts today, Oct. 3, 2018. The Wireless Emergency Alerts portion of the test, which will be sent to consumer cell phones, will begin at 2:18pm and the Emergency Alert System portion of the test, which will be sent to radio and television stations, will follow at 2:20pm. This will be the fourth nationwide Emergency Alert System test and the first nationwide Wireless Emergency Alerts test. The purpose of these tests is to ensure that both are effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level.
