NEIGHBORS DON’T WANT MOBILE HOME OR PARK IN THEIR MIDST

Senecans who live on S. Stribling Street and area made clear last night they don’t want a mobile home or a mobile home park in their neighborhood. And they left a City Hall hearing knowing that, at least for now, the city won’t approve a variance to the zoning law needed by Andrew Brown. The board of zoning appeals ruled against Brown after seven people spoke in opposition. Board member John Luedeman made the motion, calling attention to the neighbors’ feeling and to a lack of criteria. Ed Halbig, the zoning administrator, said the property where Brown seeks to locate a mobile home is 1.2 acres, short of the required two acres for a variance. At the start of the hearing, applicant Brown tried to clear up a misunderstanding. He wants to place one mobile home, not a mobile park. Regardless, one neighbor after another said even one mobile home means the potential to de-value their stick built houses. Jimmy Sanders, who lives a block away on Overbrook Drive, said, “We don’t want any trailers.”
