Nepotism Debate Continues In Westminster

During their meeting last night, the Westminster City Council reversed last month’s decision to change the city’s policy on nepotism by a vote of 4-3.

Councilman Brad Chastain requested further discussion of an amendment that could jeopardize the council term of his colleague Reid Adams or the continued employment of Adams’ wife, Jennifer, as city clerk.

Mr. Adams, last night, did cast a vote in favor of striking the amendment which held that two or more members of an immediate family may not work for the city, if that employment means one is under the direct supervision of the other…

Council member Rusty Cater expressed the need for a ruling from the State’s Attorney General…

The council did vote unanimously to request the Attorney General’s legal opinion as to whether or not Adams should step down immediately or at the end of his term, and whether or not his vote to strike the amendment was a conflict of interest.
