New Electric Buses to carry Passengers Jan.6th
The New Year brings a dramatic change to the City of Seneca, as it becomes the first city in the United States to operate an all-electric fare-free public transit system. Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander announces that passengers will begin riding the new all-electric CAT Buses on Jan.6th. “They actually have to run for 180 hours that is a test amount of time that they have to run. The date for operation is going to be Jan. 6th, they actually will go into full operation. We have four beautiful, all-electric buses.” In addition, Seneca has decided to add a fifth electric bus to its fleet. During Monday night’s special meeting, the Seneca City Council voted to purchase a fifth bus, explains Mayor Alexander. “There is enough money there to actually purchase the fifth bus, so that way we will have a spare in case we have any type of problem, we will continue to be total electric and no gasoline or diesel-type buses running.” The city will purchase the fifth electric bus with $900,000 of grant money.
