Nine killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces nine people killed on state roadways from Friday, January 24, at 6pm until Sunday, January 26, at midnight. As of January 26, 45 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 45 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Oconee County reports three highway deaths in 2014 compared to zero in 2013 at this same time.  Pickens County lists one in 2014 and five in 2013.  Anderson County has experienced two highway fatalities in 2014 compared to zero in 2013.  Of the 38 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, 21 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight January 26, five pedestrians, one motorcyclist and one bicyclist have died on state roads and highways.   These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight January 26, 2014.
