No School on Monday in SDOC

Students have a three-day weekend this weekend as the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) has a Teacher Work Day planned on Monday, Oct. 23, tells Steve Hanvey, Assistant Superintendent of Operations for the SDOC. “Monday for our staff is a Teacher Work Day and actually we’re excited about that our elementary teachers and staff are going to go to a number of our local businesses and industries in the county. That is something that has been a joint project between Chad Lusk at the Career Center and Richard Blackwell with the Oconee Economic Alliance. So, we’re excited about that and getting them out there to see what is going on and what skill set our students need to have to be successful in the workplace. So, it will be a holiday for most of our students. We have a unique situation this time because of the weather from the hurricanes, we had a situation where we did not have power at Walhalla Middle and Oconee Academy. So, Walhalla Middle School students and Oconee Academy students will be using Monday, Oct. 23, as a make up for the extra day they were off the week we had the hurricane issues and it sort of wrecked havoc with the weather and the power situation. So, the vast majority of students will take Monday off but those two places will have to go to make up for that day. Then our other make up days are in February and March, later on in the school year.” To see a complete calendar for the SDOC, visit www.oconee.k12.sc.us.
