Not Guilty by reason of Insanity

Not guilty by reason of insanity was Judge Scott Sprouse’s ruling Monday in an Oconee General Sessions Court proceeding in which a young woman faced multiple charges, reports sister station WGOG. According to 10th Circuit Deputy Solicitor Lindsey Simmons, defendant April Dawn Townsend will now be evaluated at the State Department of Mental Health. Townsend faced charges of attempted murder, arson in the second degree, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Forensic psychologist Dr. Colbi Sutton testified that Townsend is schizophrenic.
