NRC to discuss Projects at Oconee Nuclear Station

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a public meeting for January 30, with Duke Energy officials to discuss major projects at the Oconee Nuclear Station power plant, located near Seneca. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1pm at Duke Energy’s World of Energy off Rochester Highway. The public can observe the meeting and the NRC staff will be available to answer questions or provide additional information after the business portion of the meeting. Some portions of the meeting may be closed to the public because security information will be discussed.  The projects to be discussed include plant improvements designed to prevent or mitigate the effects of natural phenomena such as flooding or tornadoes.  There will also be discussions about work related to the plant’s transition to different fire protection standards as well as enhancements to improve the plant’s ability to cope with some other equipment failures.
