Numerous Area PO Boxes Broken Into, Sheriff’s Office Comfirms

Update from Sister Station WGOG’S Dick Mangrum:

Law enforcement authorities are reporting and confirming mail theft incidents late last weekend outside post offices in parts of Oconee and Anderson counties.  According to Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and his white-collar crime investigator Amanda Tinsley, mail-drop boxes were broken into Thursday night at the following Oconee County post offices:  Seneca and Richland.  Mail was also stolen from the drop box at the Fair Play and Pendleton post offices and an attempt was made to break into the box at Townville.  According to Crenshaw and Tinsley, any who dropped outgoing bills into the boxes should take steps to protect their identification by following up with their banks.  Local authorities, including the Oconee and Anderson sheriff’s offices, have joined the postal service in investigating the thefts.  Theft of mail is a federal crime.
