OC busy with Update to Comprehensive Plan

Oconee County is currently in the process of creating the 2020 Comprehensive Plan, which is a document designed to guide the future actions of the county. It presents a vision for the future, with long-range goals and objectives for all activities that affect the local government. Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley encourages residents to get involved with planning for the future. “The county is mandated to update its comprehensive plan, I think, once every five years and then do a major update every ten years and we are in that major update time. Our Planning Department is leading this effort with a consultant, but this plan is designed to plan for what Oconee County is going to look like in the next 10-20 years. If you want an opportunity for input on that then now is the time for make your voice heard. I encourage you to check out the county’s website and see information about the comprehensive plan, which has nine or ten different elements in that comprehensive plan. Everything from natural resources to housing to agriculture. They will be talking about how do we preserve and protect this place we call home and at the same time managing the growth moving forward so that we all have what we want. So, just want to encourage folks to get involved, to have a voice and be a part of this process so that you can have some input on where we are going.” To read more about Oconee County’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan, visit www.oconeesc.com and click on Planning and Zoning or call 864-638-4218.
