OC Chairwoman says “Sky is not falling”

At the start of last night’s meeting, the Oconee County Council chairwoman sought to assure the audience that its top taxpayer and major employer isn’t going anywhere for years to come, reports sister station WGOG. Consternation has cropped up after a speaker from the public urged the county leaders to begin to consider the scenario when the day arrives that Duke Energy no longer operates a nuclear power plant in the county. But Edda Cammick says that day is far off and to help assure everyone of Duke Energy’s commitments in Oconee County, a Duke Energy representative will speak at the Oconee County Council’s next regular meeting on Dec. 19. The public is welcome to attend the open meeting.
