OC Council approves Two Economic Development Projects

The Oconee County Council approved two economic development projects at their meeting Tuesday night. The first deals with “Project Maxwell” and involves an amended fee in place of tax arrangement for a $70 million local investment. Oconee Economic Alliance Executive Director Richard Blackwell is excited about this project and what it will mean for the county. “Project Maxwell is an Oconee County based business that is going through the process and here in the next two months or so we will be able to official announce that but it is an expansion and it is one that is quit large. It will be one of the largest expansions in the history of the county. So, good news to be shared in the not to distant future and we are excited about that project.” The second project, called “Exodus”, involves Pickens County, tells Blackwell. “Project Exodus is something that Pickens County has been working on in landing there in Pickens County but part of their incentive package to that company is what is called a multi-county industrial park designation. With that basically Pickens County will get about 99% of the revenue and because we said yes to being their partner county we will get 1% of the revenue.” Blackwell hopes to announce more about both projects in the coming weeks.
