OC Council sets Millage Rate

Oconee County’s tax millage is set for another fiscal year. At last night’s meeting of the Oconee County Council, Auditor Christy Hubbard made a presentation and requested a new rate. “The millage recommended to approve the budgets is for county operations we will need 62.5 mills, in the ordinance you would have 2.9 for emergency operations, 1.1 for economic development, 1 for bridges and culverts, 2.1 for road maintenance and 3.0 for Tri-County Technical College operations. That would be a recommended amount for 75.6 for Oconee County and for the School District it will remain the same as last year, 115.3 mills for operation and 31 mills for their debt service that is 146.3 for the School District given a total of 221.9 mills. I have prepared some numbers so you can see what the tax increase will actually impact on the taxpayers. On a $25,000 vehicle, they will see a $2.55 increase and on a $50,000 vehicle it will be $5.10. I’ve also done this for a $100,000 home. For a $100,000 home that is non-residential the increase would be $10.20, for a legal resident it would be $6.80 and for a legal resident that has homestead it will be $3.40.” The millage rate approved unanimously last night by the Oconee County Council is 1.6 mills less that the 3.3 millage hike anticipated when the council approved the 2018-19 operating budget in July.
