OC Council to renegotiate Advertising Contract

The Oconee County Council wants to renegotiate its advertising contract with The Journal. Tuesday night, Council Chairwoman Edda Cammick presented her concerns over what the county spends in the local newspaper. “I just handed out to the council and others our advertising agreement with The Journal that is expiring on June 30. I would like us to go over that. There are several pages worth of advertising commitments. It does not include our legal ads for our public hearings, for delinquent taxes and those types of notices. This is just the fluff and the fluff adds up to $108,400 a year. I would like a motion to direct our county administrator to renegotiate this contract.” The Oconee County Council passed that motion to have Interim Administrator Rick Martin seek renegotiations. The council also requested that all advertising vendors send representatives to next week’s budget committee meeting to answer questions about how much they are paid to advertise for the county.
