OC Ed Association donates $500 to Back Pack Program

The Oconee County Education Association recently presented a $500 check to help fund the Back Pack Program for Oconee County students.  With the assistance of Lunch for Life and the Salvation Army, the Back Pack Program has been able to provide food for students that are faced with a food crisis over the weekend.  Once permission is received from the parents, a backpack filled with 6-8 pounds of nutritious, child-friendly food is sent home each Friday.  The cost to feed one child during the school year is $160.  This year the program has served 358 elementary students and 58 middle school students. Over the summer, the foundation will continue to raise funds for the Back Pack Program to provide food for the third consecutive year to Oconee County students in need of nutritious meals over the weekend.  The $500 donation from the Oconee County Education Association helps the Education Foundation kick off the campaign.  The Education Foundation is a 501c3 organization with all contributions tax deductible.
