OC honors 210 Heroes on Memorial Day

Oconee County honored the 210 men whose names are inscribed on the War Memorial at the Courthouse in Walhalla on Monday, during the annual wreath laying ceremony and remembrance at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium for Memorial Day 2013.  The noon program drew a large crowd to the ceremony, which is produced annually by the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office.  One of the highlights every year is the reading of the winning essays written by students who attend schools in the School District of Oconee County on “What Memorial Day Means to Me.” Family members of the 210 men on the War Memorial were recognized following a rifle salute and taps performed by the Walhalla American Legion Honor Guard.
