OC Library hosting Teen Read Week

This week is Teen Read Week and the Oconee County Public Library is encouraging teenagers to enjoy a good book this week and then to pass it on to somebody else.  Oconee County Public Library publicity director and Seneca Branch manager Blair Hinson gives details.  “Each branch made a small display with a small collection of books, these are not in our catalog these are basically books that we are giving away and we hope that the teens will take the books out into the community.  This is a great way for us to outreach.  We want the teenagers to come, take one of these books, read it and then just leave it somewhere interesting.” The Library hopes that teens will find the books, pick them up, read them and then write down where they found it and left it, adds Hinson. “A lot of our books don’t come with the old book pockets that you used to put the card in, but these do have the old fashioned card in them and so there is a place where you can keep a little record of where you found the book and then hopefully somebody else will pick it up.  We hope that they will not get discarded or something.  We hope that teens will take it out and leave it somewhere interesting and then somebody else will pick it up, see a little bit about it, read the book and maybe also contribute and then they will eventually make their way back to the library.” This is just a neat outreach program of the Oconee County Public Library, concludes Hinson.  “It is a great way for us to see where they got to and maybe see some interesting stories about these being found in various places.  So, it is really a neat outreach; take those books out into the community, get the teens involved and hopefully it will be a really fun thing.  We are excited to see where these books have been, did we get any back, and if we do, did anybody write on the cards in the book pockets.  I think it will be interesting to see where all these books ended up.” Teen Read Week runs through Sunday and the Library is asking teens to return the books they find sometime next week.
