OC Meeting planned to discuss Fire Safe SC

Last year, there were 102 fire fatalities in South Carolina and as of March 28, 2018, there have already been 35 lives lost to fires. Fire Officials say there is a need in the state to work together to promote fire and life safety. A majority of fire fatalities involve human factors that can be prevented. A recent survey found that 70% of homes in South Carolina do not have adequate smoke alarm coverage. The community is invited to a meeting on Thursday, April 19, at 6pm to discuss Fire Safe South Carolina, which is a community risk reduction program. A review of current state and county community risk profiles will be given as well as a discussion of current risk reduction activities. There will be networking opportunities with state and local stakeholders. In addition, State Fire Marshal Jonathan Jones will discuss how current fire codes relate to the concerns over violent acts in schools. Learn more at www.firesafe.sc.gov. The meeting takes place at the Westminster Fire Department, which is located at 216 Emergency Lane.
