OC Mother charged with Custodial Interference

An Oconee County mother wanted on four charges of custodial interference was arrested by officials in Idaho and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on Tuesday.  The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reports that 44-year-old Laverne Marie Bennett of Walhalla is currently being held on a $20,000 bond.  U.S. Marshals brought Bennett to Anderson and an Oconee County Sheriff’s deputy transported her to the Detention Center in Walhalla. Bennett picked up her four daughters from their father’s residence over the 4th of July weekend and did not return them to their father on July 7th as scheduled.  Bennett was later found by Idaho State Police on July 13th near the Washington state line at a picnic table at a rest area off the interstate and was taken into custody.
