OC Sheriff’s Office arrests Walhalla Man on Drug Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walhalla area man on Sunday morning on a variety of drug charges after being called to a West Union convenience store. Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt gives details.  “Deputies responded to a convenience store on South Highway 11 in West Union in regards to a welfare check on an individual who went into the restroom at the convenience store, had been there for about an hour, and would not respond when people knocked on the door.  When officers arrived on the scene, they knocked on the door and heard no response. When the officers knocked again and announced that they were from the Sheriff’s Office, the individual responded, and upon being asked to by deputies, unlocked the door.  As deputies entered the restroom, they found an individual in the restroom disoriented, confused, and wondering why they were there.  Deputies then took the individual outside to speak with them further.  Deputies asked the subject if he had anything illegal on him, to which he replied “no.”  After being asked to empty his pockets, the subject laid items on the hood of the car, but according to officers, there was a white tube that he did not want to lay down.  After being asked what the object was, deputies’ report that the subject dropped his head and handed the object to deputies, whereupon deputies discovered the tube contained what appeared to be methamphetamine.  After being asked by deputies, the subject confirmed that it was meth. A K-9 then conducted an outside search of the vehicle.  After getting a hit that drugs were inside the vehicle, the subject indicated to deputies that there were some needles inside.  After conducting a search inside, deputies found pills, which the subject said, were valium.  In addition, some marijuana, meth, and other drug materials and paraphernalia were found.   The subject, 24-year-old Cory Glenn James of 320 Falcons Nest Drive in Walhalla, was arrested and charged with possession of 1 gram of less of marijuana, possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine, and possession of valium.”  James was released from the Oconee County Detention Center on a $15,620 personal recognizance bond.
