OC Sheriff’s Office getting New Body Cameras

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is getting new high-tech body cameras. So, now when the blue light goes on or a Taser is activated, the deputy’s body camera will automatically switch on to record the incident. Tuesday night, the Oconee County Council unanimously approved a new five-year contract with Axon Enterprises of Scottsdale, Arizona, to replace all 35 of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office’s body cameras and add an additional five. The cost of the five-year contract and all associated equipment is $205,751.03. The new contract also includes the Axon Signal Unit, which will be installed in vehicles to activate cameras when blue lights are turned on by deputies. Another Axon unit will attach to the Taser battery packs, activating the camera when the Taser is engaged. The county’s contract with Axon Enterprises also includes unlimited Cloud storage for all recorded footage.
