OC Sheriff’s Office makes arrests over Holiday Weekend

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office made arrests over the weekend on drugs and weapons charges during routine patrol and enforcement activities.  The first arrest came during the early morning hours of July 7th, when a deputy on routine patrol noticed two suspicious vehicles parked at the intersection of Highway 59 and Feltman Road in Fair Play.  One of those vehicles left as the deputy approached a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The driver informed the deputy that he was out of gas and leaving, upon which the deputy asked for his license.  The deputy then asked dispatch regarding warrants on the driver, upon which the deputy learned that the subject had a warrant from probation and parole. The deputy asked the subject to step out of the vehicle, where he was placed under arrest due to the warrant.  He was also searched and placed in the back of the deputy’s car.  Upon a search of the vehicle, a plastic baggie containing a white power crystal like substance was found near the shifting lever.  The subject was then asked if this was his vehicle, in which he said yes.  He was then asked what the white crystal substance and he responded that he did not know.  The subject’s vehicle was towed and as he was being transported to the Oconee County Detention Center, he complained of chest pains.  The deputy transported him to Oconee Medical Center, where he was admitted.  51-year-old Boyd Clarence Abercrombie of 107 Lakeside Drive in Westminster was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, his second offense and for the probation and parole violation.  The second arrest happened during the evening hours of July 7th around 9:55pm when deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Beverly Road in Salem.  When the deputy got out with a pick-up truck at the scene, a female walked out of the crawl space of the house on the property.  When the subject saw the deputy, she stepped back in and a male walked out with her.  Other deputies soon arrived on the scene, where they found another male sitting in the crawl space.  When questioned by deputies, they stated a man told them to come and get the water heater out of the house on the property.  After checking the house, consent was given to search the vehicle, where deputies found a Ball canning jar in the Dewalt case on the toolbox of the truck with a crystal substance in it.  The individuals at the scene denied the jar was theirs.  The jar was tested and found to be positive for methamphetamine.  The female then told deputies that the jar was hers and in the process of searching her, she stated she had a taser.  The female, 26-year-old Chasity Hope Bates of 161 Whitewater Falls Road in Salem was arrested and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
