OC Sheriff’s Office releases Litter Control Numbers

In an effort to increase awareness of the litter issue in the county, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office releases its April and May 2018 Litter Control Numbers. During the two months combined, approximately 2,300 pounds of litter was picked up in the county by inmates at the Oconee County Detention Center. An approximate total of 77 bags of trash were collected during the months. Those numbers do not reflect the amount of litter and bags that were collected on April 21, during the second Great Oconee Clean Up. Around 2,040 pounds of litter and 240 bags were collected during the clean-up. Combined for the two months, the Environmental Services Unit answered 22 calls for service and received 5 T.E.L.L. Kobie reports and performed 4 T.E.L.L. Kobie pickups. 14 cases were also investigated during the two months combined with 3 citations and 2 warnings being issued. For the first five months of 2018, approximately 10,400 pounds of litter and approximately 399 bags of trash have been collected.
