OC Veterans Council receives Donation from Itron

The Itron plant in West Union and its associates have “put their money where their hearts are” when it comes to their support for Oconee County Veterans. Jerry Dyar, Public Information Officer for the Oconee County Veterans Council, Inc. has announced that the plant associates and their corporate office have joined forces to raise almost $10,000, which has been donated to the local Veterans Council Relief Fund. Dyar said, “Amanda Brock from the local Itron plant contacted me a while back to inform me of a project they were undertaking, a fund raising drive to benefit veterans and their families throughout Oconee County who may find themselves in financial distress from time to time. Little did I realize exactly what their effort would amount to. Amanda called me sometime later to tell me that their corporate office had learned of their plans and told them the Itron Company would “match” whatever they raised. When I was notified a week or so back to come and visit with the “fund-raising team at the local Itron plant I was presented two checks totaling $10,000, a 50/50 match from the wonderful associates at our local plant and their home office.” Dyar said he was overjoyed that the veteran organization members who make up the OCVC saw the need a number of years ago to establish our “Veterans Relief Fund”. We have been able to help a lot of veterans and families over the years through our charitable efforts from all across Oconee County and this donation from the great folks at Itron will ensure that our benevolent fund will continue to help meet needs of some of our wonderful veterans who have given so much to us, our continued freedom. Dyar concluded, “These ladies coordinated the many fund raising activities over the past year that culminated with their donation.” Ms. Garren said, “This beautiful plaque will be on prominent display here at our Itron plant as a reminder to all of us that we never should forget about our great Oconee County Veterans.”
