Oconee County Closures Due to Severe Weather
Oconee County, S.C. – Due to hazardous conditions, County facilities, including the administrative complex, libraries, recycling centers, landfill, parks and Rock Quarry, will be closed on January 26, 2026. Closures of County facilities may continue throughout the week. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Emergency and public safety personnel, as well as the County’s public works division, will remain active for emergency response during this closure.
Roadways covered by ice and snow are treacherous and may be impassable. The public is advised to refrain from driving on icy roads to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles. Black ice and frozen bridges will likely retain ice throughout this event, causing unsafe driving conditions.
The public is advised to remain indoors. Anyone outside in the below freezing temperatures should wear layered clothing, mittens or gloves and a hat. Individuals should stay dry and change out of any wet clothing as frequently as possible. To avoid hypothermia, be aware of the wind chill. Seek shelter immediately if experiencing uncontrollable shaking, extreme tiredness, or numbness in the fingers, toes, ears or nose.
