Oconee County Council Approves Action Items At Council Meeting, Including Contract For Work At Seneca Rail Park

(Seneca, SC)———————At their regular meeting last night, Oconee County Council approved the first and final reading on three action items. One of the those items was the approval to use FEMA reimbursement money from Hurricane Irma to purchase an in-place upgrade to the Oconee County Public Safety Analog Voter Radio System. The funding request was subsequently approved by full Council on February 5th with the recommendation of Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King and the Oconee County Emergency Communications Director. The cost for the radio system is nearly $71,000.

Another of the action items approved by County Council was roadway improvements to the Seneca Rail Site on Shiloh Road that will mill and resurface the existing driveway and existing parking lot. The project will also involve the construction of a new 28′ wide roadway that is approximately 1,900 linear feet in length. Work will also include the crossing of an inactive rail spur with the proposed roadway.

Oconee County Council Chairman Julian Davis comments on the approval of the Seneca Rail Park action item in regards to that economic development news as well as the news revealed at the meeting last night that Horton, Inc. will be building their first manufacturing plant in the Southeast in Oconee County.

Oconee County Council Chairman Julian Davis says that there has been a lot of interest in the Seneca Rail Park. Davis added that the Inland Port in Spartanburg and Greer has provided a tremendous opportunity for Oconee County with the Rail Park here.

Formal sealed bids for the Seneca Rail Park project were opened on February 21st of this year. J. Davis Construction, Inc. submitted the lowest bid and was awarded the contract. The total cost for the project, including a 10% contingency, is almost $865,000 dollars.

Davis was also excited with the announcement that Horton, Inc. will be building their first manufacturing plant in the Southeast last night in Oconee County in the Technology and Industry Park on Highway 11. County Council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance approving a fee in lieu of tax agreement between the County and Horton, Inc. He said the company will be working Tri-County Technical College, which is also located in the Technology and Industry Park as well on the educational component.
