Oconee County Council Chairman Discusses Proposed County Budget For Next Fiscal Year, Totaling Almost $50 Million Dollars
(Seneca, SC)—Last night, Oconee County Council held their regular meeting in Council Chambers and among the items on the agenda was a proclamation recognizing Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is next Wednesday, May 15th.
Council also approved unanimously the purchase of console furniture for the Oconee County E-911 Communications Center at a cost of over $201,000 dollars, with the purchase being made using the 911 surcharge funding and the County receiving a 80 percent reimbursement for the 911 funds from the state of South Carolina. The current consoles were purchased and installed around 15 years ago.
Before last night’s Council meeting, the Transportation Committee as well as the Budget, Finance and Administration Committee met in Council Chambers.
In regards to where the budget stands for the next fiscal year that begins July 1st , Oconee County Council Chairman Julian Davis says that Council is proceeding forward with the proposed budget as stated, which includes a vehicle replacement plan, some economic development matters, some enhancements to the county owned parks and salary increases for county employees. Davis says that he believes that this will help the internal part of the county move forward.
Davis said that a millage increase is included in the budget proposal for the next fiscal year, a budget that currently, as presented, would total almost $50 million dollars. Davis says the county is working to be fiscally responsible with that increase but also making sure to do it properly so that the county can keep pace on where the taxation is.
Davis says that right now the proposed millage increase is 3.8 mills.
The proposed millage increase does not include any possible millage increases related to the budget for the School District of Oconee County. Davis said that would depend on what the School District’s proposal is as well and that proposal is scheduled to be brought before Council this month.
