Oconee County Council Meeting Tuesday Evening

Tomorrow night at 6:00pm the Oconee County Council will gather for their regular meeting.

On their agenda, following a public hearing for certain proposed ordinances, is the third reading of an ordinance to authorize use of $1.5 million from the American Rescue Plan, or COVID-19 fiscal recovery funds, “for improving the Seneca Creek Boat Ramp Facilities and other matters related thereto”.

The Council will also hear the first reading of county wide Ordinance 2021-19, which will require buffering and screening between properties of dissimilar uses. The controversial measure has raised some concerns that it is a restriction on personal property rights that will, in the long run, hurt the average citizen, who may not have funding available to install the proposed required buffer. The measure must be read twice more before the council will take a vote.

Tuesday’s meeting is open to the public.
