Oconee County Council Moves Toward Mediation in Corinth-Shiloh Fire District Dispute

The ongoing dispute between the Corinth-Shiloh Special Fire Tax District and former volunteer firefighters may soon head to mediation as attorneys for both sides work to select a mediator, even as Oconee County Council Chairman Matthew Durham dismissed the friction as “petty” while motioning to reappoint the district’s current five-member board during the final reading of its revised creation ordinance.

That move drew sharp pushback during a public hearing from local resident Dave Crockett, who argued the change reneges on referendum promises of popular board elections.

Furthermore, following reports that the former volunteer group continues to accept donations despite no longer responding to calls or having station access, Council agreed at Durham’s urging to contact the South Carolina Secretary of State.
