Oconee County Council to Consider Manufacturer Expansion Incentives Tonight

Oconee County Council will meet tonight to address several items, notably a public hearing and third reading of an ordinance concerning a fee-in-lieu agreement with “Project Shaker,” a major manufacturer considering a $20 million expansion that would create 41 new jobs through a 100,000-square-foot addition. The Oconee Economic Alliance has recommended a 30-year fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement with a 6 percent assessment rate and a fixed millage of 214.9 mills, along with a seven-year special source revenue credit at 50 percent annually, emphasizing the project’s competitive nature and the importance of supporting existing industry. Additionally, the council will consider a proclamation for the Golden Corner Food Pantry’s 40th anniversary, receive an EMS update from Prisma Health representatives, hold a second reading for ordinances regarding retaining walls, rezoning parcels on Stamp Creek Road, and a sublease agreement with the West Union Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a first and final reading of a resolution designating April as Fair Housing Month, with the meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. in council chambers at 415 S. Pine St. in Walhalla.
