Oconee County Council Votes to Keep Millage Rate the Same

At a special called meeting Thursday night, the Oconee County Council voted 4-0 to keep the millage rate the same.

County Auditor Chrissy Hubbard suggested a 1-mill decrease for the overall budget, and told the council that the budget could be covered with 115.5 mills, down one mill from last year’s 116.5 mills, which was an increase at the time it was passed.

Hubbard reported that the value of school mills grew $14,000 to $418,000 in the 2019 tax year, which would have allowed a millage decrease for the county.

The county’s mill is currently valued at $561,398.00, a nearly $16,000 increase from last year’s value.

The remaining recommendations for bonds, the Keowee fire district, debt service, municipalities and other funds remained the same.

Council member Wayne McCall was not present at the meeting.
