Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw Gives Presentation On Pursuit Alert App To Oconee County Chamber Of Commerce Luncheon

(Seneca, SC)———-Yesterday, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, along with former Pickens County Chief Deputy Tim Morgan, gave a presentation on the Pursuit Alert App during the membership luncheon of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office became the first law enforcement agency in the world to use this technology which can warn citizens who have downloaded the app on their phones of a pursuit by deputies from the Sheriff’s Office within two miles of their location if they are in motion.

A point brought up yesterday concerned some agencies around the country adopting a no pursuit policy. Sheriff Crenshaw says that agencies who have adopted this policy have seen an increase in criminal activity and that no law enforcement agency can never really adopt a no pursuit policy.

Sheriff Crenshaw says that there are proven statistics that show that criminal activities increase when law enforcement agencies in those areas adopt a no pursuit policies. The Sheriff did say that no one wins in regards to law enforcement pursuits.

The Sheriff said that in Oconee County, less than 1% of traffic stops involve a pursuit and during those times, it endangers 100% of the people. The Sheriff said the Sheriff’s Office is being proactive by implementing the Pursuit Alert Technology now instead of waiting until someone is killed or injured as a result of a pursuit and then being reactive in acquiring the available technology.
