Oconee County Sheriff Says Multifaceted Approach Needed To Combat Drug Problem In Oconee County

(Seneca, SC0—————–The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office released its 2018 Sheriff’s Office Summary to the citizens of Oconee County last week. And while the release showed a decrease in the numbers of some violent and property crimes in 2018, there has been an increase in the past few years in the number of drug arrests that have been made by the Sheriff’s Office.

In comments made during a press conference last week, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said that he believe that drug dealers ought to go to prison as the Sheriff’s Office is arresting suspects two and three times before they have an appearance in court. However, the Sheriff says that sending drug dealers to prison will not solve the drug problem totally.

The Sheriff believes that there must be a multifaceted approach also involving education, prevention and treatment. The Sheriff is excited about having an School Resource Officer is every public school in the School District of Oconee County in regards to the education of students on the dangers of drugs. The Sheriff is also hopeful that Christ Central Ministries will be able to begin their resource and solution center in the old Oconee County Detention Center this year that will include a drug treatment component.
