Walhalla Man arrested on Two Counts of Attempted Murder

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walhalla man yesterday on multiple charges, including two counts of Attempted Murder. 42 year old Freddie Ray Woods, Jr. was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 3:06pm by a deputy from the Warrants Division. The Sheriff’s Office has addresses of Spring Brook Road and Grady Lane listed as residence locations for Woods, Jr. Woods, Jr. was also charged in the same incident with Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging Firearms into a Dwelling. Woods, Jr. also had an outstanding arrest warrant on a Sex Offender Registry Violation – 3rd or Subsequent Offense. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded during the early morning hours of November 27th to an address on Lighthouse Road near Walhalla in regards to someone reportedly firing shots into a residence. Once the deputy arrived on the scene, the deputy discovered damage to the residence from the shots having struck the residence with two individuals inside. The on-call investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division was notified and an investigation began. Based upon evidence that was gathered as a result of the investigation, it was determined that Woods, Jr. had fired the shots into the residence while armed with a firearm. The charge on the Sex Offender Registry Violation stemmed from Woods having failed to register in June of 2017. Woods is required to register quarterly has part of his sentencing guidelines after his conviction in 1994 on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor –2nd Degree. Woods was also convicted previously of failing to register in Pickens and Greenville Counties. As of 11am this morning, Woods, Jr. remains in custody at the Detention Center on a combined $150,000 surety bond.
