Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Westminster Man on Possession of a Stolen Vehicle Charge

In a follow-up to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office on February 25th regarding investigators needing assistance from the public in relation to a stolen moped, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Westminster man yesterday on outstanding warrants obtained during the investigation.

32 year old Justin Coaxie Phillips of Pickens Road was arrested after a traffic stop along a section of Toccoa Highway near Westminster.  Phillips had outstanding arrest warrants charging him with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and a Falsified Vehicle Identification Number.

According to the February 25th Sheriff’s Office release, investigators were seeking assistance from the public in locating a faded blue in color 2017 Kymco Agility 50 moped that had been reported stolen by the victim from an address on Sunshine Ridge Road near Westminster sometime between February 19th and February 20th of this year.

As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered in the case, investigators were able to locate the moped at a separate address on Pickens Road that was not Phillips’ residence.  Investigators also located a falsified VIN plate on the moped.

Phillips was released from the Oconee County Detention Center after his arrest yesterday on his own recognizance.  He was given a combined $4,250 personal recognizance bond.
